Product introduction
In 2018, 35 years after the release of the original DW-5000C model, the GMW-B5000, featuring a full-metal case and a Connected Engine, was released. Based on the concepts of “evolved exterior,” “evolved structure,” and “evolved module,” the model features a full-metal case and bezel made of hard stainless steel and a vibrant ion-plated finish. Available in two models, black and gold, the new lineup features a hairline finish on the case and band, enhancing the luxurious yet subdued metal texture. The inverted LCD screen adds a chic touch to the design. The base model GMW-B5000 revisits G-SHOCK’s core hollow structure technology and evolves its shock-resistant construction. A fine resin buffer is sandwiched between the metal bezel and the main case, creating a new shock-resistant design that can withstand even a full-metal case. The band attachment section, where it is most exposed to impacts, utilizes highly shock-resistant ROGAMID, reducing impacts on the band attachment pipe. The watch also features a substantial screw-back case with a durable DLC coating on the back for superior wear resistance. The watch maintains clear visibility with a film solar cell and an STN-LCD (liquid crystal display) that makes the time display easy to read, even at an angle. High-density mounting technology maintains the watch’s compact size while incorporating an advanced engine. The watch maintains its refined design while evolving the exterior and module. In terms of functionality, it pursues precise timekeeping, featuring Bluetooth communication and Multiband 6, which supports time calibration signals from six stations around the world. By connecting with the dedicated G-SHOCK Connected*1 app, the watch obtains accurate time information from an online time server. In areas where one of six time calibration signals is available, the watch features a radio wave reception function that automatically adjusts the time and maintains accurate time. Casio’s proprietary power-saving technology enables Tough Solar power, ensuring stable operation. Other practical features include a high-brightness fully automatic LED backlight and World Time display. It also supports localization, with a day of the week display in six languages*2. This watch represents a legitimate evolution in pursuit of global basics, displaying accurate time anywhere in the world. While maintaining the concept inherited from the original, the GMW-B5000GD boasts refined exteriors, structure, and modules for superior timekeeping quality, and a full metal case. This model is a gold model.
*1 This app is exclusively for G-SHOCK smartphone link models. Connecting with your smartphone via the Bluetooth-enabled “Connected Engine” allows automatic time adjustment and world time settings, and displays the latest time zone and daylight saving time information anywhere in the world. Brand introduction
G-SHOCK established a new concept of toughness in watches. It all began with the passionate belief of its developers in creating a watch that would not break even if dropped, a seemingly foolhardy challenge that overturned conventional wisdom at the time. After more than 200 prototypes and roughly two years of work, the shock-resistant structure was finally completed. This was the birth of the technology that forms the core of toughness. Since then, G-SHOCK has continued to evolve endlessly, pursuing even greater toughness in every aspect: structure, materials, and functionality.
